Michael brings a variety experience to his teaching at Sheridan College. He has worked in audit, tax consulting, accounting/finance, and financial management software sales and implementations. He earned an MBA in Accounting from the Schulich School of Business (’86) following his undergraduate degree in Economics from York University. He went on to earn his CMA accounting designation in 1994.
In his financial planning and analysis role he worked closely with a number of senior management teams supporting the sales and marketing functions, including:
- The delivery and analysis of monthly key performance measures;
- Managing the entire planning process for an international Fortune 500 company, from the annual profit plan to quarterly forecasts;
- Generating strategic plan scenarios and analysis; and
- Performing pricing and marketing analysis in support of a complete product line rationalization.
He leveraged that experience in selling and delivering financial budgeting and performance software to accounting/finance clientele. His focus was on end-user applications and tools layered onto a SQL data warehouse using business intelligent cube technologies. He became a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist in Office PerformancePoint Server and earned the Microsoft Office Specialist designation in Excel.
Michael joined Sheridan College in January 2011, and teaching is where he found his professional passion. Looking for opportunities to use his business experience to explain difficult concepts, satisfaction for him is found in the ‘ah-ha’ moment. He hopes to have many more of those moments.
