Active Research

Screen Industries Research and Training Centre

Sheridan enjoys a special reputation for leadership in applied research into new technologies. Our world-renowned programs and exceptional faculty firmly place Sheridan at the front lines of digital innovation - ready to anticipate the needs of business and industry in a complex digital world. One of these emerging trends is exploring the applications of new technology in Realtime Production. With this emergence in mind, Sheridan developed SIRT.

Centre for Elder Research

The Sheridan Centre for Elder Research benefits from Sheridan’s institutional strengths, the diversity of its programs and a research setting that offers a friendly and accessible environment whereby older adults from the community not only participate in research but also shape its direction. Our affiliated researchers and volunteers are dedicated to developing, testing and implementing innovative, realistic solutions that improve the day-to-day lives of older adults and their families.

Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies

Canadian manufacturing continues to evolve to compete globally, with knowledge and technology as the keys to our success. The eight-million dollar CAMDT venture is a partnership with over 20 regional manufacturers, the Province of Ontario and the City of Brampton; and together we are changing the face of manufacturing in Canada.

Centre for Mobile Innovation

Initiated in 2013, research at Sheridan's Centre for Mobile Innovation (CMI) revolves around developing and refining mobile technologies to address mobile challenges and opportunities. The Centre facilitates collaboration between professors, students and industry partners resulting in innovative mobile experiences, creative solutions and adaptive technologies benefitting our communities.

Why applied research matters

Applied research refers to hands-on, practical research that challenges students to solve a real-world problem, often working with an external client or partner. We asked students and faculty members to describe the impact of applied research on the learning experience.
