Tara Marsh
Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design
Degree: Crafts and Design - Glass, 2004 & Art Fundamentals, 2001
Year of graduation: 2004
A burning passion for the arts
Born and raised in rural Ontario, Tara Marsh came to Sheridan with a love for the outdoors and all things artistic. She was able to nurture and develop her creative prowess with skills learned through the Art Fundamentals and Crafts and Design – Glass programs.
“Sheridan is very unique as one of the few schools in Canada to have a glass program, and even more so now that it is degree-granting program,” said Tara.
After graduation, she joined the Glen Williams Glass Studio, a co-operative art space in Halton Hills that has allowed Tara to set up shop and create freely.
“It gives me the opportunity to work with and be inspired by people from similar and diverse disciplines. I also enjoy helping to educate the visitors to the studio through frequent live demonstrations of glassblowing.”
Tara has used her talent to give back to the Sheridan community, having donated glass pieces for various fundraisers and other events for the college, including Sheridan’s Big Picture Gala and the college’s United Way Campaign.
She has also created glass-based awards for Sheridan, the Ontario Ministry of Finance and the Town of Oakville.
Tara’s connection to Sheridan remains strong for another reason: she met Jason Cornish, her partner of 13 years, at the college. Jason (2005) is a Technologist in the Glass Studio at Sheridan.
The creative process in Tara’s art begins with brainstorming, using the textures, colours and forms of nature as inspiration. As an artist, Tara is always looking to expand her toolbox and create one-of-a-kind pieces. “I strive to explore new techniques and styles because glass, as a medium of creation, offers endless possibilities.”
Among the many venues that have exhibited her art are The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, the Canadian Glass Show, and Toronto's One of a Kind Craft Show. Tara's pieces are sold through her studio at the mill, galleries in the Toronto and Hamilton area.
