Use chemical engineering to ensure a safe, healthy environment.
Program Overview
Prepare for your career
Sheridan's Chemical Engineering Technology – Environmental advanced diploma program offers a rigorous environmental college education that prepares students for specialized careers in environmental science, the environmental industry, the chemical industry and the laboratory.
Our program
The Chemical Engineering Technology – Environmental advanced diploma program includes courses in:
- Solid waste, air pollution and wastewater treatment.
- Environmental audit.
- Environmental regulations and laws.
- Instrumental analysis and analytical chemistry.
- Design and operation of chemical processes.
Sophisticated facilities & hands-on learning
You'll work in some of the most sophisticated college environmental science facilities and chemical laboratories in Canada, getting hands-on experience with state-of-the-art chemistry and chemical engineering technology. Sheridan's environmental science labs contain pilot plant systems that expose you to real-life industrial operations in environmental control and chemical production.
Additional information
This program shares a common academic core with the Environmental Technician, Chemical Engineering Technology and Chemical Laboratory Technician programs, so it's easy to transfer to a different program. After earning a Chemical Engineering Technology – Environmental advanced diploma some of our graduates obtain university degrees in chemistry, chemical engineering and environmental science. Depending on the university, and the choice of program, they may receive transfer credits for their study at Sheridan.
The Chemical Engineering Technology – Environmental program includes three paid co-op work placements that offer valuable experience and professional contacts. Enrolment is limited through an additional co-op selection process.
You'll also learn to use applied chemical engineering to ensure environmentally friendly industrial operations, clean up polluted sites and help enforce environmental regulations.
Many of our graduates work in laboratory, industrial and field settings, finding careers in areas such as:
- Laboratories for environmental analysis, research and development, or quality control.
- Environmental enforcement.
- Operations of environmental and industrial processes.
- Technical service and sales for chemical supplies.
With experience, graduates may move to supervisory and management positions.
Graduates have completed all the academic requirements for professional certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT). Additional requirements for certification exist and are established by OACETT. Graduates are also eligible for membership in the Chemical Institute of Canada.
Chemical Engineering Technology – Environmental courses are taught at the Davis Campus in Brampton.

Co-op
Students in this program may apply to the co-op program during their third academic semester. Enrolment in the co-op program is limited through an additional co-op application process that takes place during second year. Students in the co-op program are eligible to complete three co-op work terms prior to graduation. The program-specific academic standard required for participation in co-op can be found here: Academic Standards for Co-op and Internship.
Co-operative Education is a form of work-integrated learning that links classroom learning with paid or unpaid work experience within a professional environment. Co-op work terms are related specifically to the academic studies of each student. The work terms provide an opportunity to learn by doing. You’ll apply theory to practice, develop a meaningful view of the working world, and cultivate an awareness of yourself as a professional.
Students receive in-class and 1-on-1 career education support to help prepare for the work term. The co-op component is delivered by Sheridan’s Co-operative Education Office, which facilitates over 1,800 co-op and internship work terms per year Sheridan-wide.
