After a common first two years with Electronics Engineering Technician diploma students, you’ll study niche concepts and applications in your third year. Learn about microcontrollers, wireless communication, programmable controllers, sensors, instrumentation, imaging and video systems, power electronics, control systems and more!

Earn while you learn! As an advanced diploma student, you’ll be eligible for paid co-op placements between semesters, enabling you to graduate with one year of industry experience. You’ll also work with your fellow students on a capstone project that will be presented to employers during an open house event. Some students receive job offers as a result of their capstone or co-op participation.

Admission Requirements

Program Eligibility

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including these required courses:

  • One English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or ENG4U)

plus

  • Grade 12 Mathematics for College Technology (MCT4C) or Grade 11 Functions (MCF3M) or Grade 11 Functions and Relations (MCR3U) or any Grade 12 (U) Mathematics

or

Mature student status.

Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements will be invited to complete pre-admission tests in mathematics and English. Applicants asked to take the test are considered for admission to Term 1 contingent on receiving a minimum grade of 60% in both the pre-admission mathematics/English tests.

Applicants lacking the Mathematics admission requirement for this program may wish to upgrade their Mathematics prior to application. For upgrading information, please contact us.

Applicants may also consider applying to our Technology Fundamentals program. Successful completion of this program will meet the Mathematics requirement and will provide a broader sense of the Science and Technology fields.

Applicant Selection

Eligible applicants will be selected on the basis of their previous academic achievement (the average of their six highest senior-level credits, including required courses), and/or results of pre-admission testing.

Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program may be advised individually regarding other related programs.

Co-op

Students in this program may apply to the co-op program during their second academic semester. Enrolment in the Co-op program is limited through an additional co-op application process that takes place at the end of the first year. Students in the co-op program are eligible to complete three co-op work terms prior to graduation. The program-specific academic standard required for participation in co-op can be found here: Academic Standards for Co-op and Internship.

Co-operative Education is a form of work-integrated learning that links classroom learning with paid or unpaid work experience within a professional environment. Co-op work terms are related specifically to the academic studies of each student. The work terms provide an opportunity to learn by doing. You’ll apply theory to practice, develop a meaningful view of the working world, and cultivate an awareness of yourself as a professional.

Students receive in-class and 1-on-1 career education support to help prepare for the work term. The co-op component is delivered by Sheridan’s Co-operative Education Office, which facilitates over 1,800 Co-op/Internship work terms per year Sheridan-wide.

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Analyze, interpret, modify, design and produce electrical and electronics drawings, layouts and reports.
  • Analyze and solve technical problems related to electronics engineering by applying principles of advanced mathematics and science.
  • Apply appropriate troubleshooting techniques to electronic circuits or systems and generate and perform test procedures.
  • Design, build, test and troubleshoot electronic circuits, equipment, systems and subsystems in accordance with job requirements, functional specifications and relevant standards.
  • Modify, maintain, repair and recommend electronic equipment and systems in accordance with relevant operational guidelines.
  • Determine, select, recommend and justify the purchase of electronic equipment, components and systems in accordance with code, standards and job requirements and functional specifications.
  • Design, modify, analyze and troubleshoot logic and digital circuits, and embedded microprocessor-based and microcontroller-based systems, including assembly and high-level language programs.
  • Design, analyze and troubleshoot circuits consisting of passive components by applying appropriate measurement techniques.
  • Design, analyze and troubleshoot circuits consisting of low power, high power, active and electromechanical components, and analog integrated circuits.
  • Design, analyze and troubleshoot control systems.
  • Design, analyze, troubleshoot and repair analog and digital communication systems.
  • Apply relevant shop practices in compliance with safety policies and current regulations for electronics engineering workplaces.

International Entrance Scholarship

All new international students beginning their full-time postsecondary studies (ESL excluded) in Spring 2022, Fall 2022 or Winter 2023 semesters in Year 1 (Semester 1) will receive an entrance scholarship ranging from $1,000 to $2,000.

Bursaries for Grade 12 Students Pursuing Studies Toward a Career in Law

The annual Bursary Program for grade 12 students pursuing careers in the justice sector at an Ontario university or college is now open! Bursaries are offered by the Association of Justices of the Peace of Ontario (AJPO), the Association of Ontario Judges (AOJ) and the Ontario Superior Court Judges’ Association (OSCJA). Each association offers one bursary per year in each of their judicial regions for a total of 22 bursaries province-wide!

Computer Science Specializations

In our Honours Bachelor of Computer Science program, you'll learn foundational skills that prepare you to work in any area of computer science. But you’ll also have the chance to specialize in one of four emerging fields that interests you the most.

In the first year of the program, you’ll be introduced to each of these four fields: cloud computing, data analytics, game engineering, and network engineering.

Then, you’ll focus your studies on your selected specialization. You’ll take eight courses in your specialization of choice, gaining specific skills that are not taught in traditional diploma and degree programs.
