Support for Sheridan Program from Pharmaceutical Company Patheon Inc.
At its Davis Campus in Brampton on June 6, Sheridan announced a new partnership with Patheon Inc., a world-leading pharmaceutical company with locations in Mississauga and Whitby.
Patheon has joined Sheridan’s efforts in the creation of an Industrial Pharmacy Technologist postgraduate certificate to be offered by the Faculty of Applied Health & Community Studies. Dr. Mardy Frazer, Associate Dean, has been working with representatives at Patheon for the past few months to establish the opportunity.
The partnership includes a $125,000 donation from Patheon Inc. over two years to provide students with the training and skills they need for future careers as industrial technologists for pharmaceutical manufacturers. The investment will be put towards developing a program with a curriculum that includes theoretical and hands-on training in industrial pharmacy.
“Patheon is excited to work with Sheridan in the development of a curriculum that is relevant to the current needs of the pharmaceutical industry,” said Michael Fournier, Executive Director and General Manager, Toronto Region Operations, Patheon Inc. “This affiliation benefits both students and employers by allowing graduates to readily integrate into our industry as new employees.”
With the continuing growth of the pharmaceutical sector, ensuring that it is supported by a strong workforce is central to the Patheon and Sheridan partnership. Not only will Patheon provide funds to support the development of the program, but they will act as consultants throughout the process to ensure that it meets the needs of today’s pharmaceutical environment.

“Patheon’s commitment to Sheridan will allow us to educate future generations of technologists with the right skills and training for the pharmaceutical field,” said Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, President and CEO of Sheridan. “This partnership with Patheon is vital to Sheridan’s ability to provide education that is in line with the needs of industry, and we are thrilled by their commitment to this goal.”
The Industrial Pharmacy Technologist postgraduate certificate will be a one-year program and is aimed to launch in the near future, catering to approximately 40 students in its first year.
