Health and Wellness Services – Peer Mentors

Job Summary:

Health and Wellness Peer Mentors help to promoting Health, Counselling, and wellness resources to students across campus, in part by participating in the delivery of outreach activities and events for students.  They encourage timely and effective use of all Student Services’ resources for academic, personal, and social development leading to student success. They build community by fostering inclusive interactions and educational collaborations across programs & services.  

Job Duties Overview:

  • Participate in weekly team meetings with your Supervisor as well as training on employability skills, leadership, student responsibilities, academic success, and personal wellness topics 
  • Help create health and wellness promotional tools and web resources
  • Through team and  individual project work, participate in health and wellness as well as “b right” promotion and events to raise awareness of student issues, as well as student responsibilities & rights in an informed, positive, and respectful manner with reference to the student Code of Conduct
  • Help to promote, model, and exemplify topics such as: respect, inclusivity, healthy relationships, mental health, physical health, healthy sexuality, and other personal wellness topics
  • Participate in advertising and exposure of events and outreaches through social media creation and maintenance, electronic communication, the Sheridan Sun, etc. 
  • Communicate & collaborate with other Peer Mentor teams, Student Union leaders & service areas as needed
  • Submit by-weekly pay sheets , event reports, and meeting minutes as assigned
  • Develop and present a personal Portfolio of activities, learning & contributions over your year as a peer mentor
  • Participate in first semester & year-end evaluation sessions with supervisor

Qualifications/Skills Required:

  • Minimum B average at the post- secondary level (GPA of 3.0)
  • Experience with teamwork, problem solving, independent projects & event planning
  • Attention to detail, strong interpersonal, communication, planning and customer service skills
  • Proven creativity to design and produce concepts, visual displays, graphics & photographs
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft office required & with design software an asset                cck Apr 2013
