Oct 10 Breaking Barriers: Journeys to Employment Success

Time 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Location HMC - 4180 Duke of York Blvd, HMC Gallery (B-Wing), Mississauga, Ontario, L5B 0G5

We believe in the power of stories to change lives! Many of our students come from equity-seeking groups and experience barriers to work-integrated learning and employment. Breaking Barriers is designed to empower these students by inviting them to hear the powerful stories of past students who have experienced similar challenges on their journey to employment.

The resilience, strength and tenacity of our storytellers and their capacity to thrive is inspiring. Our speakers have generously agreed to share their stories as they share a desire to foster a community of hope and encouragement and to illuminate the way forward for others.

We are holding two sessions in early October:

Oct. 9 @ Davis Campus, Brampton
Panel Discussion: 2–3 p.m.
Meet employers and support services: 3–5 p.m.

Oct. 10 @ Hazel McCallion Campus, Mississauga
Panel Discussion: 2–3 p.m.
Meet employers and support services: 3–5 p.m.

Do you believe your journey to work-integrated learning or employment is impacted by a barrier of some kind? Barriers could include (but aren’t limited to) having a disability or mental health difficulty, or being an Indigenous student, international student, student of colour, or LGBTQ+ student.

Come and listen to the stories of past students who will share their lived experience of facing similar challenges as they were job-seeking or newly employed. They will share their strategies for success and advice about how to tackle issues arising along the way.

At this event, you’ll also have a chance to connect directly with employers who have diversity hiring practices. They can tell you about their initiatives, and will be open to providing you with advice about how to be successful in your job search and in employment.

In addition, this is a great opportunity to learn about the support services Sheridan has to offer you. Register online.

Share information about your diversity hiring approaches and practices with equity-seeking Sheridan students. Network with students and promote your company brand on campus. Register online.
