Learning Strategies Training

Sheridan offers enhanced services for students with documented disabilities. Our Learning Strategist will assist you in developing learning approaches that use your existing skills and build on your strengths. Students work on an individual basis or in small groups to achieve success. The Learning Strategist can help you to:

  • Gain further understanding of your disability and how it impacts your learning
  • Communicate information about your disability so that you can speak to instructors, staff and others about your accommodation needs
  • Use your strengths to compensate for areas in which you may have limitations
  • Assess your study skills and routines in order to maximize the use of your time
  • Learn metacognitive skills to enhance your note-taking and studying abilities
  • Acquire memory techniques that will enable you to retain more information for tests and exams
  • Organize your time to suit personal needs
  • Help you develop a plan for accomplishing tasks and diminishing stress
  • Expand critical thinking skills (analyzing, reading, writing) to be used in completing assignments
  • Develop further understanding of techniques for writing essays
  • Learn techniques for doing in-class preparation
