High quality education

  • Your professors will confirm whether your course content will be delivered asynchronously and/or synchronously. If you have questions, please connect with your professors directly for clarification.

    Asynchronous delivery means that you can access your course content, including recorded lessons or lectures, at any time. The course content and other info will be posted by your professor on SLATE, including in your course’s Virtual Community.

    Synchronous delivery means your lectures and lessons will be scheduled and delivered live – you must join at a particular time. You will connect to the course content through the virtual classroom platform selected by your instructor.

  • SLATE has multiple online tutorials available to students, with a helpful introductory SLATE video here. View a list of helpful step-by-step instructions for students using SLATE, including instructions surrounding Discussion Boards and navigating Quizzes.

  • If you are missing a course in SLATE, first please verify that the course has been added to your timetable in myStudentCentre. If you’ve recently added or dropped a course, it may take up to 24-48 hours for enrolment changes to be reflected in your timetable. Please note that course enrolment and access to the course on SLATE also depends on your student record being complete and correct, and your student account being in good standing.

    If the course appears in your timetable but is still not accessible on SLATE, please connect with IT Service Desk servicedesk@sheridancollege.ca. Please provide your name, student ID number and missing course code.

  • Sheridan intends to offer a full suite of academic programs for the Winter 2021 semester. In keeping with guidance from the Government of Ontario and public health officials, many of our programs will continue to be offered in alternate formats during the Winter semester. Face-to-face learning will be reserved for those courses where experiential hands-on learning is required. We'll continue to look for ways to take advantage of any easing in public health restrictions that may occur.

    Our faculty have significantly retooled and reorganized creative and interactive ways that curriculum is delivered to you. Virtual simulation labs, remote musical productions and our Virtual Internship Program are just a few examples of how we’ll continue to stretch your thinking, build your skills, advance your knowledge and immerse you in the joy of learning.

  • If you do not feel satisfied with the quality of your education during the Winter 2021 semester, you will be able to withdraw without academic penalty and receive a full refund, including the deposit, until February 12, 2021. All students will be eligible for this refund. More information will be posted on myOTR.

    Please note:

    • that this refund does not apply to Residence fees. Students considering living in Residence are encouraged to review the Residence Cancellation policy for details, which can be found at www.sheridanresidence.ca.
  • The deadline to withdraw from a program without academic penalty and receive a refund (excluding residence fees)  is February 12, 2021.

    We believe that you belong at Sheridan and we're dedicated to helping you stay. We hope you'll speak with an advisor about the options and supports that are available to you.   • The deadline to drop a course without academic penalty for the Winter 2021 semester and receive a refund is February 12, 2021 for regular 14-week courses.

    There are many implications to consider before dropping a class. We hope you'll speak with an advisor about your options (i.e. online tutoring, accessible learning support, etc.). To connect with an advisor to discuss your specific course and possible implications, simply email askanadvisor@sheridancollege.ca.

Making it Affordable

  • In recognition of the ongoing financial strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sheridan is offering a payment plan to new and returning domestic students and returning international students who are studying either full-time or part-time in the Winter 2021 semester. The payment plan is available to those students who have paid their enrolment tuition deposit and have an outstanding balance of less than $1000 on their Sheridan account. Specific deadlines will vary depending on whether you're enrolled in a standard or compressed semester, but a standard plan will allow for a first payment of 50% by January 29, 2021, with the balance due in two additional payments later in the semester. Our hope is that this will deliver some relief by spreading out the financial demands of continuing your studies.

    In an effort to provide you with additional financial relief, the enrolment deposit for the Winter 2021 semester has been reduced from $500 to $250 for full-time students, and from $340 to $170 for part-time students. Please note that this reduction is applicable to new domestic students and returning domestic and International students.

  • Sheridan will continue to advocate for students and identify and share resources as we continue to work to alleviate the stress and hardship that we know our students are facing during this difficult time. We encourage you to visit our Community Resources page, which includes information about food and shelter assistance, and our Government Resources page for programs that provide financial relief.

  • We recognize that some support services have been interrupted as a result of COVID-19 and, wherever possible, we've adapted service delivery of student supports to online, phone and virtual means.

    Sheridan and the Sheridan Student Union will make adjustments to several ancillary fees for Winter 2021 in light of the changes in access to facilities and delivery services. A full list of amended ancillary fees is available on MyOTR.

  • We're operating in unprecedented times and uncharted territory. Despite those challenges, Sheridan is committed to delivering our curriculum with integrity and ensuring that learning outcomes are met. We never waver on academic quality. Students will receive the learning they were promised when they chose Sheridan.

    Tuition is not being reduced because it covers the cost of providing instruction, assessment, virtual learning technology, and academic support that students will still receive as part of their studies. These costs do not change whether a course is delivered in-person or remotely/online. It is not cheaper for Sheridan to run a course remotely because remote instruction still requires instructors to deliver the course, undertake assessments, evaluations and advising, provide office hours and offer the same type of support that would typically be involved in person.

    While tuition is not being reduced, the overall cost of enrolment is decreasing as a result of reductions to program fees and ancillary fees. These decreases reflect costs that are typically associated with on campus services that will not be available this fall, such as athletics.

  • Students in some programs in the Winter 2021 semester may see a reduction in program fees, which cover materials or access to production, studio, or laboratory space as we move to provide their learning experience through alternative formats. Please note that program fees are different than tuition. These reductions will be applied automatically for students in eligible programs taking courses this Winter.

  • Sheridan’s campuses have re-opened to welcome students, faculty and staff on-campus for in-person delivery of specific programs so campus security and building operating fees are necessary. Your Onecard and IT general technology fees support services that are currently operating virtually and you have access to.

Supporting your success

  • We’ve adapted all of our services and outside-the-classroom programming to ensure you feel supported here at Sheridan. Our staff continues to work remotely via phone, chat, video and online support, providing services such as personal counselling, career and academic advising, library resources, assistance with assignments and citation, tutoring, and more.

  • We recognize that the shift to online learning may be challenging. Our advice is to:

    • Create a dedicated study space. It should be away from those in your bubble
    • Make a schedule.  Try keep your same class schedule, if possible.
    • Pace yourself. Break assignments up into chunks to make them more manageable
    • Reduce distractions. Eliminate distractions to focus on your studies
    • Communicate with your professors regularly. Ask for clarification and help as necessary

  • We understand that changing course delivery may impact your academic accommodations and we are here to help you navigate this process. Once you’ve reviewed your course plans, you’re encouraged to connect with your professors as soon as possible about your specific academic accommodations in their course (i.e. if you will need extra time to complete online tests/exams). For exams being held on SLATE, the option exists to accommodate extended time. Our Accessible Learning Advisors can also assist students by using WebEx during their exam to emulate the human reader experience.

    The Accessible Learning team will continue to work collaboratively with faculty members and students where appropriate to review opportunities to support your accommodations.

  • For the majority of Sheridan programs, using any device with specifications along the lines of the Mac mainstream or Windows mainstream models that are used in the Laptop Learning programs will provide you with all of the processing power you need for remote learning and class work.

    Students in the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design (FAAD) should consult FAAD’s minimum and recommended computing standards for each of their programs. A listing of programs and their requirements can be viewed on the 2020-2021 FAAD Computing Requirements page.

  • Co-ops and internships are proceeding in the fall. We have adapted our programs and options to protect the health and safety of our students as they earn co-op and internship recognition through remote opportunities.

    Students are not required to participate in co-op or an internship at a place of employment should they not wish to. We are advising employers and students to prioritize their health and safety and safeguard the health of our community by complying with the advice being issued by public health officials regarding COVID-19.

    Students are securing remote work-terms and we offer multiple alternative options for students to complete their work-terms based on different scenarios. In some cases where it is requested by students, we may be able to allow in-person work and this will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Other innovative and virtual options, including elements of the Virtual Internship Program (VIP)  may also be available.

Virtual Campus Life

  • At Sheridan, we understand that the college experience extends far beyond academics. Please visit our new innovative online campus hub that makes it easier than ever to connect with your peers and professors. You’ll also have opportunities to build friendships through live-streamed activities, crowd-sourced study notes and virtual gatherings such as clubs, study halls, coffee hangouts, yoga sessions and cooking classes. Once it’s safe to do so, we’ll be sure to re-introduce more on-campus activities.

Applicants

  • Many schools are attempting to help students complete courses online rather than through in-person learning.  If you are unable to complete your high school diploma, please contact Sheridan Admissions directly so that we can review the details of your application and the associated conditions.

  • Applications are still being reviewed; there may be some delays. Thank you in advance for your patience.

    If you haven't received any follow-up email communications from Sheridan within a week of your application, please contact Sheridan Admissions.

  • Supplemental admission requirements have been adjusted where necessary to accommodate pandemic restrictions. If you have further questions, please contact Sheridan Admissions.

  • The Sheridan Assessment Centre will be conducting pre-admission tests online through a video proctoring service starting May 1.

  • Sheridan is now accepting two additional English-proficiency exams that are offered online: iTEP Academic and TOEFL iBT Special Home Addition. Please refer to our English Language Requirements page for more information.

  • Applicants can provide unofficial transcripts – any offers of admission will be conditional until we receive official copies.

    Please check with your previous school, as many Canadian institutions are able to provide transcripts electronically.

  • Applications are still being actively considered for admission despite the changes that are occurring across many school systems and programs.

Continuing and Professional Studies

  • Most of our courses for Winter 2021 term will continue to be held either online or virtually. On-campus learning is being reserved for those courses or programs where hands-on learning is imperative.

  • Online classes (also known as ‘self-paced’ or ‘asynchronous’ learning) means that the student can access the course materials at a time and location of their convenience. Virtual classes (also known as ‘live’ or ‘synchronous’ learning) means the student will need to commit to attending the class on the designated dates and times, through a video conferencing application.  Instructors are present in both class modalities.

  • All CAPS students will now be required to obtain a OneCard. The card will also have a sticker indicating that you are taking a course on campus. You will not be permitted access to campus or your class without this card. Further information will be provided imminently, including where and when you will receive the card.

  • Instructors will be amending weekly topical outlines to adjust to the remote/alternate delivery model.

  • Class evaluations and assignments may be amended to reflect the remote/alternate nature of the classes. Class evaluations and assignment due dates may be amended appropriately to reflect the new online / alternate delivery. Changes will vary by class. A new course outline will be posted in SLATE if applicable.

  • SLATE is easily accessible with your Sheridan username and password - if you need help retrieving this information, please call Sheridan IT at 905-845-9430 ext. 2150.
