Update to Winter 2022 in-person program delivery

Please note that the majority of Sheridan’s programs will continue to be delivered virtually until at least March 7, 2022 given the continuing high rate of community spread of COVID-19 and guidance from our public health leaders.

A limited number of programs, where in-person instruction is critical to meeting learning outcomes, will begin on-campus classes on January 24, in addition to those that resumed in-person learning on January 10. Students in these programs will be notified directly by their faculty through their SLATE site no later than January 18. Please check your Sheridan email for details.

Are you coming to campus? You’ll need to complete your Synergy Gateway verification.

Please see these two important videos to help you prepare for joining us in person:

  1. Synergy Gateway Vaccination Verification and Documentation Upload
  2. Synergy CVV Check Status Of Vaccination

Please note that you will only be allowed on campus by:

  • Showing your Synergy compliance card indicating full vaccination or a Sheridan-approved accommodation and weekly rapid antigen testing.
  • Tapping your onecard, and
  • Completing the Sheridan Alert! app health screening.

All students and employees must upload their vaccination records to a secure platform hosted by Synergy Gateway. Personalized access has been shared through an email sent by helpdesk@synergygateway.com, which may be shown in your inbox as “helpdesk” with a subject line of “Your access to Verified”.

If you did not see the email in your inbox, please check your spam folder. For technical issues please contact Synergy’s help desk directly via synergyhelps.com (online ticketing system).

Are you coming to campus this Winter term?

Please note that you will only be allowed on campus if you have a compliance card from Synergy Gateway, Sheridan’s secure documentation portal, indicating full vaccination or a Sheridan-approved accommodation (with weekly rapid antigen testing).

Starting November 10, 2021: students who have paid their fees for the Winter term, including those eligible to return but haven’t uploaded their vaccine documents or were not attending the Fall term, will receive an email invitation from Synergy to upload their documents.

  • Upload your vaccine documents as soon as possible to Synergy, allowing 3 to 5 business days for issuance of the compliance certificate. Submitting the required documentation as soon as possible reduces the chances of delayed access to campus (your Fall term compliance can be used in the Winter term).

A Quick Guide on using the COVID-19 Vaccination Verification (CVV) System

Vaccines are available through our Health Centre or in the community.

You may request a vaccine accommodation for medical/disability, creed, or other grounds protected under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Creed/religious-based accommodations:

Before you submit your request, please review the Creed/religious-based accommodation request guide on Sheridan Central.

A designated Sheridan rep will then connect with you.

Medical accommodations:

  • Students: Download the medical accommodation form from Synergy, fill it out, and upload to the Synergy platform.
  • Employees: Download the medical accommodation form from Synergy, fill it out, and send it to employeevaccineforms@sheridancollege.ca.

Everyone coming to campus must complete a daily self-assessment on the Sheridan Alert! app asking about symptoms, exposure to COVID-19, and travel history.

Students (on SLATE) and employees (on Sheridan Central) must also complete COVID-19 online training and an acknowledgement form to confirm completion.

All campus locations Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Walk-ins are available on a first-come first-saved basis, or you can pre-book. Please ensure you complete your tests before coming to campus. Please arrive at least 30 minutes early.

* Weekly testing is mandatory for anybody with a Sheridan-approved accommodation and cannot be used if you have COVID-19 symptoms or an exposure to COVID-19. However, rapid antigen testing is available to all Sheridan employees and students who wish to take one.

Security Check-In

When you arrive at a security entrance, please stay 2m from others and:

  1. Tap your onecard
  2. Take off your own mask and store it or put it in the garbage and put on a new Sheridan-issued medical mask that security will provide.
  3. Sanitize your hands
  4. Show your Sheridan Alert! App health screening (a green QR code means you have passed the Covid-19 health screening and you can come on campus. A red QR code indicates you are NOT able to enter Sheridan buildings today. Follow the instructions on the app.)
  5. Show your Synergy compliance card.

Access Requests

All Sheridan employees and students with a valid onecard are welcome to access campus for teaching and learning activities, booked appointments, and to utilize Sheridan resources that are open. Please consult Sheridan’s website to see what is occurring in person and what services are still being offered on a remote basis https://www.sheridancollege.ca/covid-19

On campus learners and employees will be required to have their Sheridan onecard with them at all times.

After hours and on weekends, please go to the B wing entrance at your campus and call Security at 905-815-4044 to request access if you have an approved activity outside of regular hours.

Sheridan Alert! app

You can download Sheridan Alert! for free. To complete the COVID-19 health screening:

  1. Click on “Coronavirus Disease COVID-19” and then select “COVID-19 Screening Assessment”
  2. Complete the assessment
  3. Show the results to security when asked.

If you are unable to access the Sheridan Alert! app, Security will ask the same questions in-person.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Once you have a Sheridan-issued medical mask, you can temporarily remove the mask you wore to campus to switch. During this time, everyone must stand at least two metres apart. The short time when masks are being switched is not considered a significant risk by public health experts.

Masks

Masks are always required except when eating or drinking (while maintaining physical distancing). Sheridan provides ASTM-rated (American Society for Testing Materials) medical masks each day at the check-in.

Please see the FAQs for information regarding the use of personally-acquired N95 & KN95 masks.

Eye Protection

Where people will be within two metres of each other for more than a short time (e.g. passing others) eye protection such as a face shield, safety glasses, or safety goggles is recommended.

Resources

How to Don and Doff PPE (Poster) - how and in which order PPE such as medical masks should be worn.

How to Store a Non-Medical Mask Between Uses –how non-medical masks should be stored.

A non-medical mask should have at least two layers of tightly woven material such as cotton or linen. An additional filtering layer between the layers is recommended. The mask should cover your nose, mouth and chin.

For information about proper use and care, please see these guidelines from the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Security

Security is on campus 24/7 and people are at the Welcome Desk late into the evening. Security can escort you to your car if needed. Sheridan has 147 emergency phones inside buildings and on the grounds at Trafalgar, Davis and Hazel McCallion. Emergency phones call Security directly and a security guard is sent to the phone’s location in the event of an emergency or immediately upon request. Take a few minutes to program your cell phone with Sheridan Security, 905-815-4044. They can also be reached from any Sheridan landline telephone at extension 4044.

Employees with requests or questions about accessing campus, should contact security@sheridancollege.ca.

Wayfinding Signs

Upon entering, and when on campus, you will see several wall signs and floor decals providing information and restrictions, directing foot traffic in narrow corridors and stairwells (e.g. ‘one way’), and indicating where to line-up and wait for classes, the cafeteria, and printers, etc. These signs are in place to enable physical distancing and for the health and well-being of all Sheridan community members.

Bathrooms and Water Fountains

Please try to use a washroom close to your classroom, office, or lab. You will notice signs showing physical distancing guidelines. Water fountains are available to fill up water bottles.

Parking

Please visit the Parking Updates page on Sheridan Central for the latest information for students and employees about parking on campus. Additional information can also be found on Sheridan’s Parking Services page.

International Students

Sheridan is pleased to welcome international students from across the globe. More information about studying at Sheridan is available here.

Sheridan is on the Government of Canada's Designated Learning Institutions list, with an approved COVID-19 Readiness Plan. This designation confirms our eligibility to welcome international students travelling to Canada.
