Details of Career

Through Sheridan’s program I obtained a co-op position at CIBC where I was the Student Program Coordinator for four months. Upon completion of my co-op placement I was offered a full-time position with CIBC in the Human Resources Department for the Technology and Operations group. In this position I was responsible for managing thousands of personnel files, as well as hundreds of contracts for contractors that CIBC employed. I also developed a SIN card verification program during my employment.

In 2005 I completed my CHRP designation. I then continued my career with CMA Ontario (Certified Management Accountants of Ontario) where I was responsible for providing career and résumé advice to the membership. I also was responsible for all internal HR programs.

In the fall of 2006, I was offered a position with The Home Depot as the Human Resources Manager for a store very close to where I was born and raised. In this position I am responsible for the HR function of one store, encompassing 150 associates –– everyday I get to experience something different and to really make a difference in all the lives of associates in my store.

Personal / Professional Accomplishments

I completed my CHRP designation in 2005. I am now the Membership Director for my local HRPAO chapter. In 2007, I completed the CMA designation for benefits and compensation. And in the summer of 2007, I got married.

Share a Memory from Your Days at Sheridan

While at Sheridan I was eager to be a part of the student life - from living in residence and taking daily runs through the trails just outside the residence to joining the fitness center and attending weekly yoga lessons. However, my favourite memory of Sheridan is studying for exams or completing a paper at the very last second in the many halls and rooms that Sheridan has to offer and running into ALMOST all of my classmates, and sometimes even faculty - it was so nice to see a friendly face when you were stressed out and to know that you were all in this together.

Tell Us About A Faculty Member Who Made an Impact on Your Life

Throughout my time at Sheridan, John Hardisty (our Program Coordinator) was there to answer any questions his students had. During my co-op placement I received an offer of a full-time position and was torn between returning to school to complete the program and completing the program through night school so that I could accept the offer. John was there throughout this decision-making process. He answered my many questions and aided me in completing my diploma program. After leaving Sheridan, I continued this relationship with his CHRP workshop classes and many emails.

What Advice Would you Give a Sheridan Student

To make the most of your time at Sheridan –– make friends with classmates, faculty, and residence mates. And to enjoy everything around the school –– the community, the shopping, the trails. Not many schools have as much to offer as Sheridan does and Sheridan should take great pride in this.
