Top Toronto Animators Motivate Aspiring Artists

November 17, 2014

Alumni from Toronto’s Guru Studio returned to campus on November 11 offering inspiration to animation students looking to make their mark. Led by President & Creative Director, Frank Falcone (Art & Art History, 1991 and Computer Animation, 1992), pictured centre, the four grads reviewed student work and told the story behind Guru’s original animated hit Justin Time. The third season of the series for pre-schoolers was recently picked up by U.S. streaming giant, Netflix. Titled Justin Time: The New Adventures, the series will premiere on Netflix around the world in spring 2016.

Now airing in over 70 countries, Justin Time has garnered top-tier attention, including a 2014 Canadian Screen Award win, a 2013 Emmy Award nomination, and six Annie Award nominations (animation’s top honour). Guru’s new series Dinopaws is up for a British Academy of Film and Television award which will be announced later this month.

Joining Frank at the Trafalgar Campus were fellow alumni Brandon James Scott, Art Director and creator of Justin Time, pictured left of Frank; Yurie Rocha, Senior CG Supervisor, pictured right of Frank, and Harold Harris, Director, standing behind Frank.
