Music Theatre grads light up the stage at Shaw

July 29, 2014

If you plan to take in a show at the Shaw Festival this summer, chances are good that a Sheridan graduate will be part of the cast. Music Theatre alumni regularly grace the stage at the esteemed Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake and this season is no exception. Eight former students alone are performing in the Festival’s headline production of Cabaret, which runs until October 26. Sheridan grads are also part of three additional shows: The Philadelphia Story (until October 25), Juno and the Paycock and The Sea (both until October 12).

All the alumni have participated in past Shaw Festival productions, with the exception of Tess Benger (2009) who entered her first season this year with a bang, landing the roles of Texas in Cabaret and Dinah Lord in The Philadelphia Story.

Tess comes to the Shaw Festival fresh from Theatre Sheridan’s production of Marathon of Hope (inspired by Terry Fox), prior to which she held roles in productions of Little Shop of Horrors, The Sound of Music, and starred in the Charlottetown Festival’s Anne of Green Gables. Tess was also a top twelve finalist on CBC’s Triple Sensation II.

Other alumni performers at Shaw include Kyle Golemba (2005), Travis Seeto (2010), Aaron Hastelow (attended Sheridan), and Dave Ball (2012) all in their second season; along with Jonathan Tan (2009), Kelly Wong (2007), and Billy Lake (2005) in their fourth, sixth, and eighth seasons, respectively. On the other side of the stage is the Sound Designer for Cabaret, John Lott, (Theatre Arts-Technical Production, 1990.

See these talented grads in action at a special performance of Cabaret on September 27. Hosted by the Alumni office, the event will feature a post-show reception with the cast.  Tickets are $108 for orchestra seating.  RSVP today!
