Closing Out A Banner Year

Ayesha Mohan closes out 2009 with two leading acting roles under her belt

An aspiring director with no acting experience, Ayesha Mohan hit the bigtime as the female lead in two major films released in ’09.

Her performances in The Pool which opened in Canadian theatres last April, and Gulaal, which was released in India a couple of weeks before that, earned great reviews and opened a new world to the Advanced Television and Film ’03 grad.

“Working on The Pool with a blended American and Indian crew was a new and exciting experience for me. Actors and directors from all over the globe are collaborating on movies with greater frequency. I would love to be part of international cinema and not limit myself solely to Bollywood films.”

Ayesha came to acting almost by default. She had gone to back to Delhi (where she grew up) as Director Anurag Kashyap’s assistant on Gulaal. He convinced Ayesha to audition for the role of the murderous seductress in the film. She believes that her acting experience will make her a better director, which has always been her ultimate goal.

“When I was 17 years old I knew I wanted to show my experiences to the world someday. Since then, all my thoughts have been in 'shots'. Once I got to Sheridan, I started taking my dream seriously.”

Ayesha is currently working on a feature length script which she plans to direct. Having completed a couple of short scripts, she’s now looking for money to turn them into films.
