Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Anne of Green Gables - The Musical ™returns to The Charlottetown Festival’s stage this year, with Katie Kerr reprising her lead role of Anne Shirley for a second season. Joining Katie, who studied Music Theatre – Performance at Sheridan, are several alumni, many who have returned to the Festival.

Among the Music Theatre – Performance graduates is Shawna van Omm (2004), a P.E.I. native performing in her eleventh consecutive season with the Charlottetown Festival Company. This year, Shawna greets the audience in the roles of Mrs. Sloane and Mrs. Spencer.

She is accompanied by fellow Maritimers Anthony Macpherson (2002) as Moody Macpherson and Alicia Toner (2008) returning in the role of Prissy Andrews, along with Matthew Campbell (2002) in the role of Cecil the Farmer, Andrew McAllister (2007) as Male Swing, and Jennifer Rider-Shaw (2009) as Josie Pye.

Jennifer, Alicia are also among the grads performing in Canada ROCKS!, a musical recognizing legendary Canadian artists and songs that runs until September 27 at the Festival.

The Charlottetown Festival has turned to Sheridan to fill the leading role of Anne several times over the years. Sharmaine Ryan (1993), Broadway and Stratford Festival star Chilina Kennedy (2000), as well as current Shaw Festival player Tess Benger (2009) have each played the iconic character.

The 50th anniversary season of Anne of Green Gables - The Musical runs from July 1 to September 24.
