4th Annual Big Picture Gala a GLEEful Success!

Gala2010Sheridan hosted another outstanding Big Picture Gala at the Mississauga Convention Centre on October 28th. Guests were treated to sounds from the hit television series Glee, performed by the talented students from Sheridan’s renowned Music Theatre Performance program. The evening’s Master of Ceremonies was stand-up comedian and former Sheridan student, Evan Carter.

Among the special guests of the evening were the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, The Honourable David C. Onley; Mississauga Mayor, Hazel McCallion; Brampton Mayor, Susan Fennell; the Honourable William G. Davis; as well as M.P.s and M.P.P.s from the Halton and Peel regions.

The grand raffle draw prize for the event was a new 2011 Ford Fiesta, generously donated by Ford of Canada. Other event highlights included a silent auction featuring unique artworks crafted by students, alumni and faculty from Sheridan's School of Animation, Arts and Design. An array of other exciting items, ranging from Smartphones to tickets for the 2011 Juno Awards, were also up for auction.

A focal point of the gala was the presentation of the Big Picture awards, which recognize organizations and community groups who lead their fields in innovation and achievement. This year’s winners were:

Business: Ford Motor Company of Canada Limited

Technology: Dell Canada Inc.

Community Service: YMCA Canada

Arts: Torstar Corporation

Accepting the awards at the event were David Mondragon, President and CEO of Ford of Canada; Paul Cooper, Country Manager at Dell Canada; Scott Haldane, President & CEO, YMCA Canada; and John Honderich, Board of Directors Chair, Torstar Corporation.

All proceeds from the Gala support Sheridan's Shine Brighter campaign to enhance academic programming, invest in technology, support student scholarships, as well as campus expansion.
