Ricardo  Hoar

Associate Dean, School of Applied Computing - Trafalgar Campus

As the Associate Dean of Applied Computing, Ricardo leads a talented and creative team of faculty at the Trafalgar campus. His leadership philosophy is collaborative and transparent, fuelled by the insights, expertise and creativity of faculty and students. Ricardo's passion for applied computing can be seen in his publication record, entrepreneurial ventures and teaching philosophy. He takes pride in seeing students develop to their full potential, especially in applied computing where the possibilities are endless.

Prior to coming to Sheridan, Ricardo was the Chair of Mathematics and Computing at Mount Royal University (MRU) where he led a diverse group of faculty in developing, reviewing and delivering a range of programs. As an associate professor at MRU, he taught a wide range of computer science and information systems courses, and included undergraduate students in applied research whenever possible. Before stepping into the academic realm, Ricardo held several IT roles including programmer and systems administrator for a range of Calgary companies including the Alberta Securities Commission. He remains active in the entrepreneurial world, having published many apps and websites through his consultancy.

Ricardo obtained his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in computer science from the University of Calgary and is currently completing his doctorate in Educational Leadership at the University of Western Ontario. His research interests include intelligent transportation systems, web science, mobile computing and computing education.
