Dr. Sherri Steele has had an active career in post-secondary education for over 10 years.  She began teaching part-time in the University Partnership Centre at Georgian College, teaching for  Laurentian University.  She then began teaching in the Health Sciences at Georgian, specifically in the Pre-Health Science and UOIT RPN-RN Nursing Bridge programs.

Dr. Steele began her full-time teaching career at Sheridan College in 2011 as a Professor of Life Science in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHASS), teaching primarily in the Pre-Health Science (formerly GAS-Health) program and cross-college electives .  In her time with FHASS, Dr. Steele worked as the General Education Coordinator, and then as the Program Coordinator for the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway and General Arts and Science programs.  In February of 2018, Dr. Steele joined the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies at Sheridan as an Associate Dean in the School of Applied Health where she oversees the Practical Nursing, Personal Support Worker, Pharmacy Technician and Community Pharmacy Assistant programs.

Dr. Steele completed a Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Guelph in 2003 and then pursued graduate studies in the University of Toronto’s Institute of Medical Science as a Masters and then PhD student, graduating with her PhD in Medical Science in 2009.  Her doctoral research focus was on elucidating the cellular and molecular mechanisms of Fas-mediated apoptosis in the pathophysiology of acute, traumatic spinal cord injury.  Her work also looked at understanding these secondary injury mechanisms from the perspective of potential clinically-relevant therapeutic targets.
