Peter Steven is Professor of Film Studies and holds a PhD in Radio, TV, Film from Northwestern University, Chicago. He is the author of several books on film and international media, including Brink of Reality: New Canadian Documentary Film (1994), The No-Nonsense Guide to Global Media (2010), The News (2010), and About Canada: Media (2011). Steven is the former Editor of Freedom to Read, the magazine of the Canadian Book and Periodical Council, and, since 1979, an Associate Editor at Jump Cut: A Review of Contemporary Media. His current work includes a graphic version of his global media books and presentations for the Union for Democratic Communications Conference, in San Francisco.  At Sheridan he teaches courses on film history, creativity and experimental cinema, art of cinema, documentary, and world cinema.
