  • Students are placed in an ESL level according to their lowest individual skills score either in their IELTS Academic or TOEFL scores. For example, if a student has an IELTS Academic 5.0 for Speaking and Listening, an IELTS Academic 4.5 for Reading and an IELTS Academic 4.0 for Writing, the student will be placed in the Intermediate level.
  • Students who have a pre-placement (based on IELTS Academic/TOEFL scores) may take the Sheridan ESL Placement test on arrival to challenge their placement level. Students who take the Sheridan ESL Placement test on arrival will not be placed lower than the level in their pre-placement,  provided their IELTS/TOEFL test score is still valid (no more than 6 months before arrival).
