Dr. Julie Dempsey is a Professor in the School of Public Safety. She received her PhD in forensic psychology form Carleton University, a Master’s degree in social psychology from Brock University and Bachelor of Arts degrees in both psychology and criminology and criminal justice from Carleton University. Broadly, Julie’s research focuses on psychology and the law. She has conducted extensive research related to eyewitness memory and juror decision-making. Her recent work examines eyewitness memory for multiple targets and the various factors that may affect identification accuracy and the impact of this on police investigations and trials. Dr. Dempsey has published her research in a number of peer-reviewed journals.

Prior to joining Sheridan College, Dr. Dempsey was an instructor at Carleton University and taught numerous courses in the area of forensic psychology. Dr. Dempsey has also worked as a Research Officer for the Ottawa Catholic School Board identifying indicators of student success and assessing new classroom and board initiatives. Dr. Dempsey also worked as a Research Analyst for Correctional Service Canada in the Community Reintegration branch developing and assessing offender management programs in the community.
