About FIPPA
ABOUT FREEDOM OF INFORMATION AND PROTECTION OF PRIVACY ACT
The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) R.S.O. 1990 Chapter F.31 is provincial legislation that applies to Ontario Colleges effective June 10, 2006.Some key purposes of FIPPA include:
- Provide the public with a right of access to information, subject to limited exemptions;
- Protect the privacy of individuals with respect to their personal information held by the institution; and
- Provide a right of access to such information.
- Private donations
- Labour relations and employment-related records leading to agreements
- Teaching materials and research
- Closed meetings
- Solicitor-client information
- Economic and other interests of the institution
- Third-party information
- Advice and recommendations
- Danger to health and safety
- Publicly available documents
- Law enforcement
- Relations with governments
