Support Services

The Centre for Indigenous Learning and Support is committed to providing services to support First Nations (Status/Non-Status), Metis and Inuit students' success. Here are some of the support services we provide:

Support for New and Prospective Students

If you're a new or prospective student, the Centre for Indigenous Learning and Support will help you transition into college life:

  • We organize an Orientation Session at the beginning of each academic year.
  • We can connect new students with a peer mentor at the beginning of each academic year.
  • We can assist prospective students with their application and portfolios when applying to Sheridan.
  • We can help you with your Pathways into Sheridan. Contact us for more information.

Financial Aid Support

As an Indigenous student, including First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students, you may be eligible to receive specialized government support for post-secondary education. We’re here to help answer any questions you may have about financial aid, including:

  • First Nations Band Funding
  • Ontario Student Assistant Program
  • Scholarship/Bursaries
  • Inspire
  • Other funding options

Indigenous Elders

Elders are vital to Indigenous communities. The Centre for Indigenous Learning and Support offers you the opportunity to meet with Elders for support, guidance, and teachings. Elder in Residence Bertha Skye is available every Thursday.

The Centre for Indigenous Learning and Support wants you to join the Sheridan community! We work closely with Sheridan's recruitment team to let future students know about the diverse academic programming and exciting Indigenous Community here at Sheridan.

We also collaborate with the Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design (FAAD) to offer creative, hands-on workshops to teens aged 14 to 17. These workshops allow students to experience Sheridan first-hand and spend time in our unique learning environment.

For example, in the summer of 2016, we partnered with FAAD to create a skateboard workshop for First Nations high school youth:
