Sheridan announces Schulich Builders scholarship winners
Ten Sheridan students are taking the next step toward careers in the skilled trades as recipients of the Schulich Builders Scholarships for the 2026-27 academic year.
This year’s Schulich Builders are bringing their ambitions into Sheridan’s electrical, welding, plumbing and precision machining programs. The scholarships will help cover tuition, tools and living expenses, giving students greater financial support as they develop the skills for their chosen careers.
With one in six job openings projected to be in skilled trades-related occupations by 2034, Schulich Builders Scholarships provide crucial support to hard-working learners who are pursuing a certificate or diploma in the skilled trades at an eligible college. The scholarships allow students to pursue their goals by helping to offset costs of tuition, tools and living expenses. Students in one-year certificate programs receive $20,000, and students in two-year diploma programs receive $40,000.
The Schulich Builders Scholarships are granted annually to students at Sheridan and 11 other colleges throughout Ontario, helping to combat the shortage of skilled trades workers and amplify their importance and value to our communities. Sheridan skilled trades programs are taught at Davis Campus in Brampton within the Magna School of Skilled Trades, a 130,000-square-foot facility with dedicated spaces for plumbing, electrical, machining, millwright, welding and construction training.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that 10 Sheridan skilled trades students have benefited from the Schulich Builders scholarships. Many past recipients are now making their mark in industry, including alumna Savannah Barnes who says the scholarship lifted "a huge weight off my shoulders" and is now working at Toyota Motors Manufacturing Company.
"Skilled trades professionals are essential to building strong communities and a resilient economy, and Sheridan is committed to ensuring accessible education and pathways into these rewarding careers,” says Dr. Cindy Gouveia, Sheridan President and Vice-Chancellor. “We are extremely grateful to the Schulich Foundation for its ongoing support of our students and for nurturing this vital pipeline of talent.”
“Congratulations to this year’s Schulich Builder Scholars,” says Judy Schulich, President of The Schulich Foundation. “The trades offer stable, in-demand careers. We’re excited to support these students as they build strong skills to set them up for success.”
