Designing Great TV

Alain Savoie attended Sheridan’s Media Arts program from 1998-2001, where he specialized in television production and visual effects. Upon graduating in 2001, he was hired by Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) to take part in the launch of their two digital sports networks: LeafsTV and RaptorsTV. While employed by MLSE, Alain created dozens of graphic packages for in-house produced shows, co-produced the first interactive sports quiz show (TML IQ), and operated the character generator for over a hundred pre/post game shows.

In September 2003, Alain was offered a Broadcast Designer position for the newly licensed Toronto 1 station. At Toronto 1, he was responsible for the look of the in-house productions, which included Toronto Tonight, Toronto Today , The Source and the A-List.

In 2005, Alain was given the opportunity to create the graphic look for Global’s new entertainment show, Entertainment Tonight Canada. Since then, he has created hundreds of graphic elements, as well as the current on-air look. He took part in the Gemini Awards pre-show, the Grammy Awards pre-show, and the Toronto International Film Festival coverage. Alain has done a number of other series graphic packages and specials, which include Deal or No Deal Canada, It’s Just Food, Street Eats, Patent Bending, Shipwrecks, Toronto FC, and Project Runway Canada.

The best advice I can give to Sheridan students is to sleep 8 hours a day—no matter what. The more rested you are, the more you'll accomplish.
