Dr. Sheri Adekola is a Professor of Computer Applications at Sheridan College with over 18 years of interdisciplinary teaching, research, and curriculum development experience across colleges and universities in Ontario. Her work sits at the intersection of applied digital skills, research methods, equity-informed pedagogy, and community-engaged scholarship. At Sheridan, she teaches computer applications with a focus on Excel, data analysis, digital documentation, and technology-enabled learning, while embedding research literacy and real-world problem solving across business and social science contexts.

Dr. Adekola holds a PhD in Geography from Wilfrid Laurier University, an MEd and Graduate Diploma in Refugee and Migration Studies from York University, a BEd in Adult Education from Brock University, and a BSc in Biology from the University of Ottawa. Her research expertise includes qualitative and mixed methods, migration and diaspora studies, identity and cultural diversity, and scholarship focused on Black communities and newcomer experiences. She has led and collaborated on funded research supported by SSHRC, WAGE, and the Canadian Women’s Foundation.

In addition to her academic work, Dr. Adekola is the founder of a youth-focused nonprofit organization serving communities across the Greater Toronto Area and a serial entrepreneur with experience building and leading community-based and social-impact ventures. These experiences inform her applied teaching, interdisciplinary research, and interest in collaborative projects that connect technology, education, entrepreneurship, and social impact.

  • Computer applications for business and the social sciences; applied digital skills; spreadsheets and data analysis (Excel); presentation and document design; research methods and research tools; qualitative and mixed methods; information systems; digital literacy; technology-enabled learning; identity, culture, and diversity in education; Black communities and the African diaspora; migration and newcomer experiences; equity-informed and inclusive pedagogy; supporting diverse and multilingual learners; experiential and work-integrated learning.

Research Interests

  • Research methods education, including qualitative, mixed, and applied approaches. The use of computer applications and digital tools in research, teaching, and community contexts. Identity, culture, and diversity in learning and knowledge production. Research on Black communities, the African diaspora, and migration, with a focus on education, employment, and community development. Community-engaged and participatory research, program evaluation, and the role of technology in advancing equity, access, and social impact.
