Jennifer Peterson completed her Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree with majors in Accounting and Small Business/Entrepreneurship in Winnipeg at the University of Manitoba.  She pursued further studies in Manitoba and obtained a Masters of Accounting, followed by her CPA, CA designation.  Not long after completing her education, she and her family moved to Ontario.

Before teaching at Sheridan College, Jennifer spent more than twenty years in public practice accounting.  From the time she was an accounting student herself, she was interested in entrepreneurship and supporting individual business owners in pursuing their business ideas and goals.  During this time of her career she was involved in a variety of roles that provided the opportunity to assist business owners and entrepreneurs with the accounting and financial needs of their companies.

Jennifer worked with accounting firms that specialized in providing a full range of services to small and medium sized owner/managed businesses.  Most recently, she worked as a manager to directly support clients and develop accounting staff within the firm.  She also supported other professional accountants to establish a new accounting practice.

During her time spent in public practice accounting, Jennifer specialized in preparing and reviewing financial statements and corporate tax filings for a large variety of clients.  As a manager, she provided consulting and advisory services to support the needs of a diverse client base.  Jennifer also worked during the early part of her career in the areas of audit and personal taxation.

Jennifer has always enjoyed learning and new challenges and sought out teaching at Sheridan as a next step in her career.  She enjoys mentoring and engaging students in their own learning journey.

Jennifer began teaching at Sheridan in 2017 on a part-time basis, then joined as a full time Professor of Accounting in 2018.  She teaches a variety of courses with the Pilon School of Business including Accounting, Taxation and Auditing.

For more than ten years, Jennifer has also coached a variety of group fitness classes at local gyms.  She has a passion for fitness and wellness and loves to share that with other people through physical activity.  When she is not teaching or coaching, Jennifer enjoys travelling and staying active with her family.
