Deborah has been a full time faculty member in the Child and Youth Care Advanced Diploma Program at Sheridan College since 2010. Her educational journey began with an SSW Diploma from Conestoga College, progressed to a BA in Social Development Studies from the University of Waterloo, and culminated in a Master of Social Work (MSW) Degree from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Deborah came to Sheridan College with over 26 years of professional experience working with at-risk children, youth and their families in a variety of front line, supervisory, and consulting capacities, primarily in the residential and child welfare contexts - including being privileged to work with the aboriginal community. She has also enjoyed leadership roles in labour relations within the helping profession, as well as in special projects involving youth in International and remote First Nations communities.

Deborah’s areas of focus in teaching have primarily involved providing 1st year students with foundational professional helping skills and child/youth development knowledge. Her areas of passion within the Child and Youth Care program have included supporting student success and engagement, providing academic advice/guidance, and working to enhance students’ academic and professional writing skills.
