Program Overview

Earn a credential that employers respect

Students go a long way in just 30 weeks, learning the most current practices in precision machining while earning a credential that employers respect.

Industry-standard facilities and equipment

Sheridan's unsurpassed tool and die training facilities feature the most current, sophisticated machinery, including Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment – the same industry-standard equipment you'll use in the workplace.

Transfer opportunities

Your Mechanical Techniques – CNC & Precision Machining certificate may qualify you to progress into the more advanced program, Mechanical Technician – CNC & Precision Machining. You must successfully complete the certificate program to be eligible to transfer to the diploma apprenticeship program. You may also choose to continue your education in related Technician and Technology diploma programs at Sheridan.

Additional information

The emergence of new technologies and industries hasn't lowered the demand for workers in traditional trades such as tool and die making and general machining. But skilled trades people do require new skills for the 21st century – and the Sheridan Mechanical Techniques – CNC & Precision Machining program prepares students for that challenge.

Students also learn how to conduct a job search, maintain proper work documentation, and communicate effectively on the job. Sheridan’s instructors have years of experience as practicing tool and die makers and general machinists. They’ll serve as mentors and career coaches long after you've graduated.

Advanced standing will be granted for equivalent courses.

Program Eligibility

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including these required courses:

  • One English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or ENG4U).

or

Mature student status.

Applicant Selection

Eligible applicants will be selected on the basis of their previous academic achievement (the average of their six highest senior-level credits, including required courses).

Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program may be advised individually regarding other related programs.

International Entrance Scholarship

All new international students beginning their full-time postsecondary studies (ESL excluded) in Spring 2022, Fall 2022 or Winter 2023 semesters in Year 1 (Semester 1) will receive an entrance scholarship ranging from $1,000 to $2,000.

Bursaries for Grade 12 Students Pursuing Studies Toward a Career in Law

The annual Bursary Program for grade 12 students pursuing careers in the justice sector at an Ontario university or college is now open! Bursaries are offered by the Association of Justices of the Peace of Ontario (AJPO), the Association of Ontario Judges (AOJ) and the Ontario Superior Court Judges’ Association (OSCJA). Each association offers one bursary per year in each of their judicial regions for a total of 22 bursaries province-wide!

Computer Science Specializations

In our Honours Bachelor of Computer Science program, you'll learn foundational skills that prepare you to work in any area of computer science. But you’ll also have the chance to specialize in one of four emerging fields that interests you the most.

In the first year of the program, you’ll be introduced to each of these four fields: cloud computing, data analytics, game engineering, and network engineering.

Then, you’ll focus your studies on your selected specialization. You’ll take eight courses in your specialization of choice, gaining specific skills that are not taught in traditional diploma and degree programs. Your computer science specialization will give you a competitive advantage when you graduate.
