Program Overview
Develop a valuable and versatile skillset
Software and hardware skills taught in this program are valued by employers and can be applied in a wide variety of fields. First, you'll study basic concepts that are relevant to both electronics and computer engineering. You'll then learn more specialized skills and tools, including:
- Programming
- Operating systems
- Programmable logic devices
- Microprocessors and microcontrollers
Hands-on learning opportunities
Put your new skills to the test and gain experience using cutting-edge technology in the labs of our state-of-the-art Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design. There, you'll work with and be inspired by students and professors from our entire suite of engineering programs, including our Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering degrees.
Work towards your technology credential
As a Computer Engineering Technician graduate, you can either enter the workforce or go directly into the final year of our Computer Engineering Technology advanced diploma program. You’ll also have completed all the academic requirements for professional certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).

Program Eligibility
Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including these required courses:
- One English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or ENG4U)
plus
- Grade 12 Mathematics for College Technology (MCT4C) or Grade 11 Functions (MCF3M) or Grade 11 Functions and Relations (MCR3U) or any Grade 12 (U) Mathematics
or
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements will be invited to complete pre-admission tests in mathematics and English. Applicants asked to take the test are considered for admission to Term 1 contingent on receiving a minimum grade of 60% in both the pre-admission mathematics/English tests.
Applicants lacking the Mathematics admission requirement for this program may wish to upgrade their Mathematics prior to application. For upgrading information, please contact us.
Applicants may also consider applying to our Technology Fundamentals program. Successful completion of this program will meet the Mathematics requirement and will provide a broader sense of the Science and Technology fields.
Applicant Selection
Eligible applicants will be selected on the basis of their previous academic achievement (the average of their six highest senior-level credits, including required courses), and/or results of pre-admission testing.
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program will be assessed and advised individually and may be considered for other, related programs.
English Language Proficiency
All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Sheridan’s English proficiency requirements.

Degree Completion allows you to apply your diploma credits toward a Sheridan degree. You’ll get significant credit for the courses you completed in your diploma, which means you can complete your degree and advance your career sooner.

Bursaries for Grade 12 Students Pursuing Studies Toward a Career in Law
The annual Bursary Program for grade 12 students pursuing careers in the justice sector at an Ontario university or college is now open! Bursaries are offered by the Association of Justices of the Peace of Ontario (AJPO), the Association of Ontario Judges (AOJ) and the Ontario Superior Court Judges’ Association (OSCJA). Each association offers one bursary per year in each of their judicial regions for a total of 22 bursaries province-wide!
