Get ready for a career in advertising strategy and management.

Program Overview

Prepare for a career in advertising

In this one-year graduate certificate program, you’ll learn to plan, develop and create complete digital and traditional advertising campaigns. You’ll graduate with confidence, ready to contribute your skills to a professional advertising agency.

Co-op option: Get advertising work experience

Co-op experience can make all the difference. As an advertising student at Sheridan, you can apply for a four-month co-op work term. This on-the-job experience can be just the career boost you need to land a great job in advertising. Our co-op program is competitive — you’ll need to meet certain requirements to qualify.

Create an integrated marketing communications campaign

Set your business objectives. Research your target audience. Learn how advertising and marketing communications can influence consumer behaviour. Then, use industry-standard software to create an integrated advertising campaign that combines traditional, digital and social media strategies. As an advertising professional, you’ll understand target markets and develop messaging that speaks to the consumer.

Get access to resources from the Canadian Marketing Association

Logo for Canadian Marketing Association

  • Exclusive events and member pricing
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Exclusive content, including guides, whitepapers and research reports
  • Networking opportunities with the top marketing talent in Canada
  • CMA NXT postsecondary career planning resources

This program meets the educational prerequisite needed for entry to the CMA's Chartered Marketer program.

Develop skills in advertising and marketing

In this program, you'll also learn to:

  • Produce and deliver professional campaign pitches.
  • Develop and communicate a product’s brand identity.
  • Solve complex marketing communications challenges.
  • Manage brand activities through social media messaging.
  • Design creative advertising.
  • Plan media selection and placement for traditional and digital media platforms.

Program Summary

Co-op

Students in this program may apply to the Co-op program during their first academic semester. Enrolment in the Co-op program is limited through an additional Co-op application process that takes place in the first semester. Students in the Co-op program are eligible to complete a Co-op work term during the 4-month term following the second semester. The program-specific academic standard required for participation in Co-op can be found here: Academic Standards for Co-op and Internship.

Co-operative Education is a form of work-integrated learning that links classroom learning with paid or unpaid work experiences within a professional environment. Co-op work terms are related specifically to the academic studies of each student. The work terms provide an opportunity to learn by doing. You’ll apply theory to practice, develop a meaningful view of the working world, and cultivate an awareness of yourself as a professional.

Students receive in-class and 1-on-1 career education support to help prepare for the work term. The Co-op component is delivered by Sheridan’s Co-operative Education Office, which facilitates over 1800 Co-op/Internship work terms per year Sheridan-wide.
