Alumna reveals inspiration behind work

Svetlana Chmakova (Animation ’02) discussed her work in an interview with Publisher’s Weekly in July. She described her journey into the comic world while growing up in Russia. Her new comic, Brave, came out in May, and had a first printing of 150,000.

This summer, Lynn Dooly-Marek (Bachelor of Illustration ’12) was accepted into the Arts-Sciences-Lettres de Paris, and received the pewter medal from the society that aims to promote education and cultivation of arts and sciences.

Crafts and design grads enjoy summer awards

Craft and Design grads are racking up awards this summer. Duncan Aird (Ceramics ’97), won the Fine Craft category in the City of Hamilton Arts Awards handed out in June. And in late July, Junnie (JoonHee) Kim (Ceramics ’15), won Best in Craft and Design and Mary Philpott (Ceramics ’96), won Best in 3D work at the Toronto Outdoor Art festival.

Grad gets squirrelly on Nut Job 2

In The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature, director and co-writer Cal Brunker (Animation ’03) brings to life the adventures of Surly the squirrel and his furry friends who are trying to stop their beloved park from being bulldozed. Brunker is one of nearly 40 Sheridan alumni who worked on the film. Ovation asked Brunker about his time at Sheridan, the challenges of making a sequel, and how his two-year-old daughter became one of the first to review it.
