Grad helps hockey players stay healthy

The Vancouver Giants hockey club has hired Mike Burnstein (Athletic Therapy ’92), as an athletic trainer. Burnstein spent 20 seasons with the Vancouver Canucks. When he joined the Canucks in 1995, he was then the youngest trainer in the NHL.

Alumnus brings Spider-Man to life

Steve Murray (aka Chip Zdarsky) (Illustration ’00) is the author and illustrator of a new Spider-Man comic book being released in June. The new book, Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man, will be released in June to coincide with the summer opening of the new film, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

New novel from Josh Cassidy

Illustration graduate Josh Cassidy’s (‘09) new graphic novel, Paradise, is now on sale. The novel explores the notion of the afterlife as it follows the main character’s quest to find out what happens after death.

Grads nominated for Dora Awards

Congratulations to Andre Stankovitch (Technical Production ’15), nominated for Outstanding Sound Design/Composition; Shakura Dickson, (Music Theatre Performance ’13), who’s up for the Outstanding Performance – Individual award; and Arinea Hermans, (Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance, ’16) who’s received a nod for Outstanding Performance – Female. The Dora Mavor Moore Awards recognize excellence in the performing arts in Toronto. They will be presented on June 26.

Young alumni make top 40 list

Business, health sciences and engineering alumni are being celebrated as Brampton’s young leaders on the city’s top 40 under 40 list. Kobi Amponsah (Bachelor of Health Sciences ’16) runs the successful online business, Neck Couture, which creates custom bowties. Ryan O’Neil Knight (Accounting ’12) is the owner and CEO of Detailing Knights, a car cleaning service that comes directly to customers in the GTA. Hargurdeep Singh (Mechanical Engineering Design and Drafting Technology ’15) is an Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing Consultant at CAD Microsolutions. During his time at Sheridan, he was an Ontario Co-op Student of the Year and became an expert in Sheridan’s cutting-edge 3D technology.

Canadian Cinema Editors Awards honour grads

Sheridan grads were honoured at the 2017 Canadian Cinema Editor Awards. Kayla Salt (Advanced Television and Film ’16) won a Student Merit award for I am the Wolf, while Steve Patoine (Media Arts ’16) also won a student award for Misaligned. Ryan Monteith (Media Arts ’00) won Best Editing in Reality/Competition for The Amazing Race Canada: Second Place Isn’t Good Enough, and Jane MacRae (Advanced Television and Film ’07) won in the category of Best Editing in Short Film for Thresher.
