Derrick has many diverse interests. He loves travelling and this has led him to teaching in three different countries, including Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Canada including time in both Alberta and Ontario.  Although Derrick started in English Second Language, it was his transition into online course development and teaching around technology that has become his true passion. Since the move, he has taught courses in web design, database design, introduction to programming, social media, the impact of technology on society and various office products.

He started at Sheridan in instructional design and faculty mentoring, working with faculty on how to best integrate technology and online learning into their classes. His work in the online field has earned him two awards, the E-Learning Award at Dubai Women’s College (2004) and the Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Faculty of the Year in the Higher Colleges of Technology (2005). Since coming back to Canada he has presented at the This is IT Conference on Wikis (2009) and on Beyond Google and YouTube (2010).  In his free time Derrick loves to design on his computer, hike and most of all travel. To date he regrets that he has only been to about 29 countries on 5 different continents. There are still so many more to go.
