Movement Matters: Parkinson’s exercise rehabilitation

Overview

Movement Matters is a partnership between Sheridan College and Parkinson Canada designed to improve the strength, confidence and quality of life for people living with Parkinson's disease.

This community-focused, educational and therapeutic program leverages Sheridan’s expertise in kinesiology to provide vital support for individuals with Parkinson's disease while offering students crucial real-world experience.

Support for participants:
Through targeted exercise and rehabilitation sessions, Movement Matters aims to empower participants by helping you regain strength and build confidence in your movement.

This FREE program is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each session is one hour.

All assessments and sessions are held at Sheridan’s Davis Campus in Brampton, or may be held virtually upon request.

This program includes:

  • FREE assessment to evaluate mobility, balance and strength to guide tailored exercise planning.
  • FREE exercises focused on improving strength, coordination and daily function through guided sessions.
  • FREE custom program created for you to continue at home.

Experiential learning for students:
A significant aspect of the initiative is providing hands-on, practical experience for students in Sheridan’s Clinical Kinesiology and Kinesiology and Health Promotion programs. Students in these programs work directly with participants under the supervision of experts, giving them real-world experience to complement their classroom learning.
