Director, Research and Innovation

Carolyn Moorlag, MSc, PhD (she/her) serves as Generator at Sheridan’s Director of Research and Innovation, fostering collaboration between academia, industry and community to advance applied research with meaningful, real-world impact. Dr. Moorlag leads two of Sheridan’s research and innovation centres - the Centre for Applied AI, which is at the forefront of the development and application of artificial intelligence across multiple industries, and the Centre for Intelligent Manufacturing, which integrates technology and innovation to drive forward manufacturing expertise and solutions. Under her strategic guidance, these centres act as vital accelerators for technological adoption, bridging the gap between complex research and scalable, industry-ready solutions that drive economic growth. Prior to Sheridan, Dr. Moorlag was a research and development manager in industry, conducting research in materials development and integration, additive manufacturing and prototyping, and advanced devices, and she is a strong contributor to innovation and holds over 130 issued technology patents. Dr. Moorlag’s technical background includes a Masters in Metals and Materials Engineering, and a PhD in Materials Chemistry, both from the University of British Columbia.
