Sheridan Musical Theatre students perform with children from the Chinese iMusicals school
Five students from Sheridan’s prestigious Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance Program, in collaboration with the talented children of the Chinese iMusicals school, bring together music theatre performers from opposite ends of the globe to present Part of Your World: an evening of song, dance, and storytelling on Saturday, July 23 in Macdonald-Heaslip Hall at Sheridan’s Trafalgar Road Campus. Performance begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Last year, five Sheridan interns went to Shanghai to experience first-hand the Chinese musical theatre scene and training programs, including a visit to the iMusical school. Thanks to the great relationships formed on that trip, this year’s interns now have the privilege to play host to the Chinese students for a week-long intensive rehearsal, culminating in a final showcase.
An exploration of musicals from the past and present, this show will follow a group of children and their discovery of the magic that is theatre. The children explore an old storage room in an abandoned theatre only to discover boxes of old props, set pieces and costumes from the shows of yesteryear. Each box transports them into a new musical theatre adventure.
This one-night-only event features numbers from some of musical theatre's most beloved musicals including Beauty and the Beast, Gypsy, Shrek the Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Billy Elliot, On the Town, and many more.
The show was conceived and organized by fourth-year Sheridan students Georgia Bennett, Dave Comeau, Joel Cumber, Alex Panneton, and Kelsey Verzotti who also perform alongside 21 students from the iMusicals school who range in age from seven to fourteen.
Dora Award-winning choreographer Nicola Pantin stages each number with excitement and a vision that will make this evening a truly special one.
