Sheridan College Receives the Support of the Government of Canada to Build Regional Manufacturing Innovation Capacity
Sheridan College is pleased to announce a new initiative aimed at helping regional small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) build capacity around critical emerging manufacturing technologies.
Through the support of the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP), Sheridan’s Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies (CAMDT) in Brampton Ontario will work with numerous SMEs on a variety of research projects, workshops and training opportunities. Specifically, the new program at Sheridan aims to help local businesses learn about, develop and adopt additive manufacturing (3D printing) and robotics technologies into their workflows through the guidance of experienced faculty and senior students from Sheridan’s School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering & Technology.
Sheridan welcomes inquiries from SMEs in the Peel Region advanced manufacturing industry interested in taking part in the new initiative. Over the next few months, the College will host a series of community outreach events profiling the benefits of additive manufacturing and robotics services and highlighting the technology development services available at CAMDT through the new program. 15-20 companies will then be selected to work with CAMDT student and faculty researchers on knowledge transfer collaborations as part of the new program.
“Participation in these collaborations will enable SMEs to transfer Sheridan’s recognized technical knowledge of 3D printing and robotics into their own organizations, boosting product development, marketing and commercialization,” said Dr. Farzad Rayegani, Director of CAMDT and Associate Dean of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering & Technology at Sheridan. “At the same time, we are furthering CAMDT’s mission to create high-quality learning opportunities for the students working on these projects, providing them with invaluable hands-on client experiences before they graduate.”
The launch of this initiative comes on the heels of Sheridan’s recent partnership announcement with Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME). In September, the two organizations launched “Canada Makes: Canada’s Premier Additive Manufacturing Network”. The network is dedicated to the adoption and development of additive manufacturing in Canada.
