Sheridan Seeks Contemporary Art Installation
As part of its ongoing effort to make creativity and innovation tangible and defining notions of the college, Sheridan invites proposals for its annual “Temporary Contemporary” large-scale, art installation. The winning artist will receive $7,000 and will have his/her work installed at Sheridan’s Trafalgar Campus in Oakville for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Temporary Contemporary was created with five objectives in mind:
- to bring innovative and original artwork by high profile artists into the Sheridan community
- to enrich the experience of the Sheridan community with stimulating and challenging artwork
- to animate and elevate the quality of our public spaces with engaging artwork
- to integrate artwork into the curriculum through an artist’s talk, workshops and projects related to the installed work
- to link the Sheridan community to the broader cultural and artistic milieu
The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 2 at noon. Proposals should be submitted as a PDF document and should include the following:
- a description of the proposed artwork/installation for selected site
- a sketch of the proposed artwork or an image of the work if it already exists
- dimensions of the proposed work
- technical details about the artwork’s construction and installation, including how it would be secured at the chosen location
- the value of the work for insurance purposes
- an explanation of how this installation would enhance the learning experience at Sheridan
- how the artwork could be integrated into curriculum at Sheridan
- contact information for getting in touch with the artist involved
The new installation will replace the sculptural work entitled Dopplekopf 2013 by Roula Partheniou, a Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate from the University of Guelph. Her piece, featured in the Trafalgar Campus Learning Commons, was made of up two vitrines with mirrored objects, one in colour and the other in shades of grey, highlighting the idea of perception through reflection.
