Faculty of Business students place second at international Ethics competition

Sheridan Faculty of Business students Erica Forest and Anotine Sarhan placed second in the Ethics event at the 36^th annual Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC) hosted by Queen’s University. This is the first time Sheridan has competed in this prestigious event that attracts more than 25 Universities and Colleges from around the world to compete in a multi-level case competition.

Sheridan Global Business Management students Vince Aglioti, Gyllena Annandsingh, Javid Boodoo, Ryan Devries, Erica Forest, Antoine Sarhan and Veina Wang competed in the Marketing, Business Policy and Ethics categories. Coached by Dr. William Holmes, Vice Provost at Sheridan College, Erica Forest and Antoine Sarhan competed in the Ethics category where they tied for second with the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Other schools competing in this category were Queen's University, McGill University, University of Vermont and Okanogan College.

“Impressive results. Tough to get to the finals let alone place in the top three with a second place finish,” said Robert Giberson, Associate Dean, Sheridan Faculty of Business. Giberson worked at the University of Regina for 14 years before coming to Sheridan College. “About a quarter of the teams that competed would make it to Queen's (final round) and then about a third of them would place. Sometimes more, other times less,” said Giberson.

Students first compete in a preliminary round where they submit their case solution to a panel of judges for review. From all of the submissions, six teams are selected to move to the finals. The judges for the final competition represent companies including; Google, Tim Hortons, Bain & Company, KPMG, IBM, Transcanada, PwC and Target Canada. Peter Milliken, the longest serving Speaker in Canadian history, acted as the official Speaker of the House for the final round debate.

ICBC is one of the longest running, student-run case competitions in North America, attracting institutions world-wide including, Queen's University, University of Calgary, University of New South Wales, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Vermont.

“The opportunity to compete in the final round of ICBC was an unforgettable experience. I met incredibly talented students from schools across Canada and got to interact with business professionals. I felt very proud to represent Sheridan,” said Erica Forest, second year Global Business Management student.
