mobile navigation An academic strike continues to be in effect at all Ontario Colleges, including Sheridan,  however we are hopeful that the back-to-work legislation will be passed and finalized by Sunday, November 19. Should the legislation pass by November 19, we anticipate welcoming our faculty back to Sheridan on Monday, November 20 to prepare for students to return to classes on Tuesday, November 21. Please check back here daily for an updated list of services and programs that will be running during the strike, as well as their hours of operation.

What is suspended during the strike?

Please note that campuses will remain open with security on site, however, the following classes and services will be suspended during the strike:

  • Regularly scheduled classes for full- and part-time students
  • Regularly scheduled classes for Apprenticeship students (however, the work experience component of apprenticeships will continue)
  • Classes offered at Sheridan for joint programs with the University of Toronto at Mississauga (UTM), York and Brock Universities
  • The following two Continuing and Professional Education classes: Motion Picture Camera Assistant Workshops 1 and 2 (MEDA70011 and MEDA70012)
  • The following Ontario Learn Online Learning modules: Leading Responsibly (Leadership Development Series) (MGMT70031), Legislation in the Workplace (LAWS70007), Coaching and Developing People (BUSM79002), Creative & Critical Thinking (Leadership Development) - Section 1 (MGMT70025), Creative & Critical Thinking (Leadership Development) – Section 2 (MGMT70025), Human Relations (Leadership Development Series) (MGMT70027) and F17 – Science of Popular Diets: Impact of Nutrition on Human Wellness (NUTR7001G).
  • Workforce development programs (LINC, ELT, OSLT)
  • School College Work Initiative programs (including Fall 2017 Dual Credit courses)
  • Academic upgrading courses (including Academic and Career Entrance classes)
  • Field placements
  • Internships that are supervised by faculty members in the academic union
  • Athletic Therapy Clinic
  • All Co-Curricular Record (CCR) activities supervised by Faculty
  • All Information Sessions for Second Career, Internationally Trained Individuals and Admission Assessment
  • FAAD's Internal Portfolio Review Day on October 24
  • Sheridan's participation in National Portfolio Day at OCAD University on November 4
  • Sheridan's Animal Care Centre grooming services
  • Biztech Career Fair on November 8 (will be rescheduled)
  • Further Education Week events from November 13 to 24 (will be rescheduled)

At Davis Campus, entrances from the Recreation Centre into Lot #3 and overflow are blocked off as part of the strike action and will continue to be blocked for the duration of the strike, but entrances off of McLaughlin and Steeles remain open.


What is still running during the strike?

The following classes and services will remain operational during the strike:

  • Continuing and Professional Education classes with the exception of the courses listed above
  • Most Ontario Learn Online Learning modules with the exception of the courses listed above
  • Co-op placements
  • Centre for Indigenous Learning and Support
  • Internships that are supervised by non-academic union employees
  • The Centre for Student Success (Davis: Room B230; HMC: Room A247; Trafalgar: Room B104)
  • Access to library spaces (library, learning commons, room bookings for self-study)
  • Access to labs/studio spaces for self-directed learning (on a case by case basis, should supervision be possible by trained technicians and/or student monitors)
  • All administrative offices
  • International Centre
  • Tutoring Services
  • Academic Integrity Office
  • Student health centre
  • Residence programming
  • Most Sheridan Student Union services and events (see below for details). SSU offices will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  • Athletic and recreation facilities
  • Sheridan’s Childcare Centres at all campuses
  • Public Transit and ParaTransit (however, public transit stops at Davis Campus and Trafalgar Road Campus have changed. View alternate public transit stops here)
  • Sheridan Shuttle is currently running on a modified schedule: The Sheridan Shuttle will operate Bus #1 and #2 only from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Pick-up locations remain the same. 
  • Office of the Registrar – all services including Admissions, Records and Registration, and Financial Aid. There will be limited service at the Assessment Centre
  • Some food services, the bookstore and Xerox centres will be open but operating on reduced hours (see list below).
  • Safe Walk program
