Huy Tran, Business Admin Marketing ‘17

National Director of Marketing at ABURI Restaurants Canada

Huy TranI am an award-winning photographer with two degrees in marketing and applied economics. My career has been a mixture of creative and analytics work; however, everything has always revolved around food and culture, except for that first strategy internship with Ford Motor Company. Currently, I work as the National Marketing Director for Aburi Restaurants Canada.

In 2019, I worked on one of Toronto's most beloved food delivery apps called Foodora. I helped launch Ontario’s first alcohol on-demand delivery partnership with the LCBO. I led all digital planning and execution as we grew from 6 to 12 cities, including a multi-million-dollar city take-over campaign that doubled our acquisition within six months.

In early 2020, I lost my job to the pandemic and started volunteering as a designer to launch the 15 Percent Pledge organization. My design work was featured in TIME and CNBC, and to this day, we've been able to shift almost $10B+ of revenue to Black-owned businesses.

In early 2021, I collaborated on a case study with OpenTable (a Bookings Holding company) to detail my initiative to launch a PPC campaign with the ABURI Group that transformed our reservation performance. Later that year, I led one of our restaurants, Minami Toronto, to win The Americas' Best Designed Restaurant of 2021 by the Restaurant & Bar Design Award.

Fast-forward to mid-2022; I signed the company’s first digital partnership with RBC, launched our first partnership with TIFF to strategically elevate the brand’s affinity among festival goers, and opened a high-end Japanese grocery store with a line-up of hundreds of people on our opening day.

On September 13, our team's most prestigious concept, Aburi Hana, was the first to be awarded a Michelin Star in the history of the Canadian culinary landscape.

I also write blogs, photograph food commercially, and design graphics on the side.
