English Language Requirements

All Sheridan programs are taught in English. You’ll need strong English communication, listening, comprehension, reading and writing skills to be successful in your program of study.

All applicants to Sheridan must demonstrate English-language proficiency.

Demonstrating English-language proficiency with secondary or high school experience

If you wish to waive the English proficiency requirements listed below, you must provide acceptable proof of at least three years of full-time study in a secondary school (high school) or school system where English was the primary language of teaching and grading.

If you have at least three years of high school experience in Canada, Australia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, New Zealand, Singapore, the United States, the United Kingdom, or a Caribbean country other than Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti or Puerto Rico, you won’t be required to prove English proficiency as long as you provide a full transcript.

Applicants from Canadian-curriculum high schools outside of Canada with at least three years of high school experience will also be exempt from English proficiency requirements when they provide a full transcript.

Note: ESL courses do not count towards your years of English study.

Demonstrating English-language proficiency with college or university experience

Successful completion of one of the following is sufficient to demonstrate English-language proficiency:

  • At least two years of study in English at a recognized college.
  • At least one year of study in English at a recognized university.
  • A one-year post-graduate certificate at a recognized college in English.

English-language proficiency testing
