mobile navigation An academic strike continues to be in effect at all Ontario Colleges, including Sheridan,  however we are hopeful that the back-to-work legislation will be passed and finalized by Sunday, November 19. Should the legislation pass by November 19, we anticipate welcoming our faculty back to Sheridan on Monday, November 20 to prepare for students to return to classes on Tuesday, November 21. Language Assessment and Essential Communication Skills

In order to ensure Sheridan graduates have the skills they need to excel in their field of employment, we consult regularly with employers through Program Advisory Committees and through research into the skills required of employees in today’s complex workplace. One of the most essential skills is that of effective communication.

Essential Communications Skills (ECS) (course code COMM19999), is a communications course intended to help you develop the written and spoken communication and presentation skills your future employers tell us you will need. This course will also help you develop the academic writing skills you will need throughout your program.

For more information on the course curriculum, check out the course outline for COMM19999. Students who are required to take Essential Communications Skills as part of their program must first complete a Language Assessment prior to the start of classes so they can be placed into the correct Communications Skills course.

Please note: Language Assessment test scores are valid for three years. If you have not enrolled in a communications course within three years of your Language Assessment, you will have to retake the Language Assessment.

Winter 2018 Term

Students who are admitted to the following programs are required to complete a Language Assessment at Sheridan before classes begin in January.

Applicants starting full time programs in January 2018 and requiring a language assessment will be able to register for their test via myStudent Centre beginning in November 2017. There is no fee to take your Language Assessment.
