Jane has over 30 years of clinical Social work experience in the Social Service sector. Her work spans a number of sectors including social assistance and employment services, children’s mental health, child protection services, housing (youth shelters), employee assistance programs and private practice.

Jane has enjoyed a variety of roles as Counsellor, Supervisor, Program Coordinator, Regional Manager of Clinical Services, Individual and Family Therapist, E-Counsellor, Consultant and Educator.

Jane's teaching philosophy mirrors core principles that guide her clinical work: professionalism, partnership, collaboration, creativity, authenticity, transparency, accountability, integrity and client or student centeredness. She believes that who you are in the classroom as an educator needs to align with the values and skills that you hope students will take with them into the profession. This is how students will change lives and bring about social change.

  • Introduction to Social Service Work and Field Placement, Social Diversity in Contemporary Canada, Social Justice and Social Change, Field Preparation, Professional Practice, Group Work Methods, Human Development, Concept of Helping and Helping Models and Strategies.

Research Interests

  • Mental Health and Mindfulness-based approaches to Counselling, Anti-Oppressive Practice perspectives, LGBT issues and disability.
