Lorraine Alyea, MBA CPA, is an entrepreneur turned educator. Throughout her career, she provided accounting and taxation services to both corporate and personal clients as well as information systems consulting services with an emphasis on building the gap that exists between the area of accounting and information technology.
Lorraine has a strong passion for teaching, which can be seen in her role as Professor at Sheridan College, McMaster University and Certified Professional Accountants (CPA). She is a mentor to her students which can be seen not only in the classroom but in her roles as coach for the Ontario Colleges Marketing Competition (OCMC), CPA Ontario Case Competition and as Faculty Advisor for Enactus Sheridan. In 2010, she was nominated by her students for TVO’s Best Lecturer Competition, a testament to the regard her students have for her.
Volunteering and supporting the community is very important to Lorraine and this was evident when she founded “Paint Them Blue for Autism”, an autism awareness campaign that supports Autism Ontario. She assists parents of children with disabilities in obtaining services and community supports and is currently the Chair of the Halton Catholic District School Board’s, Special Education Advisory Committee. She has previously served on multiple boards and committees including as Vice-Chair, Board of Directors for the Oakville Parent Child Centre and as a member of the PA1 Standard Setting Committee for CPA Canada.
Lorraine has been recognized multiple times by the Peel Chapter of CPA Ontario for her volunteering efforts to the association and the community at large. In 2012 she was awarded the Ontario Distinguished Service Award by CPA Ontario.
