Greg was born and raised in Toronto. After high school, Greg went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from York University. He then began his full-time working career as a Merchandiser for Boyle-Midway Canada ( a consumer packaged goods company), and continued to work in the cpg area with Clorox as a Sales Representative, and ultimately as a Key Account Representative. Greg took his selling skills to Searle Canada (subsequently purchased by Pfizer) where he was a Consumer (OTC) Representative and a Pharmaceutical Representative, winning 3 Sales Representative of the Year Awards. During this time he was accepted to complete an MBA part-time at The Schulich School of Business.
Over the next 10 years, Greg continued in progressive Sales Management and Marketing Management roles at Searle. He won Sales Manager of the Year and Marketer of the Year during this time, and was recognized as the most effective coach in an Angus Reid survey. He managed products and sales people in food service, consumer packaged goods, OTC and pharmaceutical categories. During this time he completed his MBA in Marketing and Finance and also completed the Canadian Securities Course and the Canadian Investment Management Course. He continued expanding his knowledge in the pharmaceutical industry by becoming accredited by CCPE(Council for Continuing Pharmaceutical Education) and completing 3 additional post-grad courses, achieving the Gold Medal in Rheumatology.
Greg then left Searle to join the company now known as sanofi aventis Canada, as the Director of Marketing. Greg was then promoted to Executive Director, Sales & Customer Service. Greg spent 6 years at this premier vaccine company, serving on Global Marketing teams, and being trained in Six Sigma process improvement. Greg went on to join Bayer as Vice-President of Marketing, and subsequently Senior Vice-President, Specialist Pharmaceuticals, where he won the Bayer Gold Cross Award for transforming the Commercial Annual Product Plan Process.
Greg then went on to form Greg Ball Consulting where he completed numerous projects in areas such as strategic planning, digital marketing, global launch planning, customer targeting and prioritization, commercial assessment, and representation to Government and Fortune 500 companies.
In 2008 Greg began teaching part-time at Sheridan. He became a full-time professor in 2010, and has subsequently taken on the role of Academic Advisor, and Ontario College Marketing Competition coach (coaching his team to Gold medals in Entrepreneurship and International Marketing). He is currently the Marketing Program Coordinator, and looks forward to fulfilling the Marketing program mission of ensuring that graduating students possess the attitudes, technical skills, and behavioural competencies needed to maximize their full potential, whether they choose a career in marketing or pursue further education.
