“Singer, Actor, Producer and Professor of Popular Music Theory and Performance” Mary-Lu Zahalan is a Juno-nominated recording artist with three C.D.s to her credit. She was signed to a publishing deal with Sony Music and worked with such renowned producers as David Foster and Humberto Gatica.
She has numerous TV and film credits including The Third Miracle with Ed Harris, Exhibit A, Twice In A Lifetime, PSI Factor, Top Cops, Ready Or Not, Missing Treasures and a number of made-for-TV movies. Mary-Lu has appeared in hundreds of television commercials and has done countless voice-overs and jingles. She starred in the Dora award winning PumpBoys and Dinettes and then went on to headline a tour of the Middle East for the Canadian Armed Forces.
Mary-Lu has been producing films such as ‘KARMA’ and ‘Curveballs’; shorts that have been featured in numerous international film festivals. In 2008, she produced her first feature film, Poker Night, which aired on the Super Channel in Canada. Her production company, High C Productions Inc is developing three feature films, a psychological thriller a dark comedy and a dance movie.
Mary-Lu is the creator and head of the Commercial Vocal Department in the Music Theatre program at Oakville’s Sheridan Institute of Advanced Learning and Technology. She is also an Honours graduate of this program. She now holds the distinction of being a Professor of Popular Music Theory and Performance after completing her Masters (cum laude) in The Beatles, Popular Music and Society at Liverpool Hope University in the UK.
Along with publishing Cultural Capital: The Beatles in Canada through Chicago publisher, The Beatle Works, Mary-Lu is currently working on two books, one that chronicles and celebrates her adventures as a ‘mature student’ in Liverpool and the other that expands upon her research regarding the Beatles reception in Canada.
