Updates on the Faculty Strike

Note: These Strike Information pages are no longer being maintained.

We've left these pages here for your reference so you can see the information that was communicated to the Sheridan community during the academic strike period of October 16 – November 19, 2017.

For the latest information about returning to class after the strike, please see our Back to Class Updates.

The collective agreement for academic staff (faculty, counsellors and librarians) at all of Ontario’s 24 public colleges expired on September 30, 2017. No new contract agreement has been reached.

Strike action at Ontario's public colleges, including Sheridan, commenced on Monday, October 16.

On November 16, the Ontario Labour Relations Board announced that the majority of striking academic employees across Ontario voted to reject the Colleges’ latest offer of settlement.

The two sides returned to the bargaining table on November 16. A settlement was not reached. The Legislature reconvened and, on Sunday, November 19, 2017, the provincial government passed back-to-work legislation (Bill 178), which has ended the Ontario college strike.

Sheridan professors, librarians and counsellors will return to work on Monday, November 20 to prepare for classes to resume on Tuesday, November 21.

When will we be back in class? [Updated November 19]

Now that the Ontario college strike has ended, we're welcoming our faculty back to Sheridan on Monday, November 20 to prepare for students to return to classes on Tuesday, November 21.

As we communicated during our Strike Information Forums for Students, exams, tests and assignments will not be rescheduled until a minimum of three business days after classes resume. These assessments pertain to material that was already taught prior to October 15.
