Sheridan Creative Campus Series event features Mental Health Innovator

February 08, 2017

Stéphane Grenier has drawn deeply on his own experience of suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) to develop innovative approaches to helping individuals with mental health issues.  A retired Lieutenant Colonel, Grenier served 29 years with the Canadian military and participated in several overseas missions, including Rwanda in 1994/95 and Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2007.

Those experiences contributed directly to Grenier’s PTSD, which led to suicide attempts.  Through the course of his recovery, he came to recognize and value the importance of peer support, which led him to develop, implement and manage a government based national peer-support program for the Canadian military.

After retiring from the military in 2012, he created Mental Health Innovations Consulting in order to dedicate his full attention to developing non-clinical mental health interventions as a complement to traditional clinical care.

Grenier will share his experiences and perspective on how mental health issues and related stigmas can be more effectively addressed and overcome during a Creative Campus Series address at Sheridan.

When:                  Monday, February 13, 6-8 pm

Where:                The Den (Student Union Pub), Davis Campus

                                7899 McLaughlin Road, Brampton

The Creative Campus Series was created to celebrate Sheridan’s commitment to creativity and innovation across disciplines.  Approximately six talks are planned each year, all of which are open to the Sheridan community and the general public.  This year’s series is sponsored by TD Bank.
